Justice for Immigrants

Migration: My Home My Story

Timeline of project: Begin production now

Films submitted no later than January 12, 2009

Voting to occur the week of January 15-23, 2009

The overarching goal of this project is to push back on the anti-immigrant rhetoric that is alive and well in the social arena. Whenever you you-tube immigration you get some pretty nasty results. With that, the Jesuit Conference and the National Justice for Immigrants Campaign decided to take on a national video project/competition asking people (targeting high school aged youth) to put videos together (3-5 minutes) that illustrate the migration reality of families and communities making the connection to Catholic Social Teaching.

The kids will be able to submit these to you-tube where members of the National JFI campaign can view them before they’re posted to the JFI site as part of the project (they have to be sure there isn’t anything attacking the church’s position or completely out of line). Once screened they’ll be entered to the project site for people to view. There will be a “dancing with the stars” kind of voting process where anything can vote but the ‘judges’ from the JFI campaign will weight in on who gets to be Number 1.

There is a National Winner and the prize is an all expense paid weekend at Ignation Family ____ in D.C. in March where the winner will get some 1 on 1 time with a film producer or something of the sort.

We’d like to have a Local Prize here, maybe something involving Archbishop Gregory.
