Alright to start off with, take a sheet of paper out. Put a "dot" in the middle of paper. This dot represents YOU!
Within the first ring, write the names of those people who are allowed to get really close to you - friends and family you can really trust, those you like to spend time with, or those people you know care about you deeply. There may just a few names in that ring.
Within the 2nd ring, write the names of people you consider friends and good company.
Within the 3rd ring, write the names of friends and relatives who you know and sometimes do things with but who you are not particularly close to.
The names within the rings sometimes move between rings with relationships getting stronger or weaker.
Don't feel you have to put EVERYONE on this sheet of paper. Only take a few minutes.
No matter how many friends we have in the other two rings, most of us have just a few in that 1st inner ring. In the song "Again", Flyleaf expresses a point of view from someone in that inner circle.
Reflection/Journal Questions.
- What is God saying?
- In what way does God encourage the individual?
- What might be the "place in life" of the person this song is directed to?
Our call to holiness comes from God. And, the only way to be on that road is to be in relationship with God.
Look-up the following scripture passages. Pray through them. Write down ONE WORD that sums up (describes) the relationship idea in that verse. Try really hard to use just one word and also try to not duplicate ideas.
- John 15:1-8
- Matthew 11:28
- Psalm 37:18
- Proverbs 18:24
- James 4:8
- Exodus 33:13-14
- Psalm 91:3-5
- Isaiah 55:2-3
Journal/Reflection Questions.
- How are good relationships sustained?
- How are good relationships ruined?
- Why do relationships at a distance seem weaker than ones that are up close?
- What is easy and hard about having a personal relationship with God?
For further reflection: Imagine God is writing a song just for you! What might He say? Write down a few verses. Place it inside your bible near Psalm 91 so at times when you are doubting God's love for you, you can be reminded.
